Indian States and Capitals


The following is a brief introduction to the topic:

India consists of 28 states, and 8 union territory. Every state has a capital which is the home of its state government. We’ll look at some major Indian states, and their respective capital cities.

1. Maharashtra – Mumbai

  • Mumbai, also known as Maharashtra’s capital city and India’s financial capital, is home to the country’s most important business centers.
  • Bollywood, India’s film industry is based in Mumbai, which is also known as a vibrant city with a vibrant nightlife.
  • Mumbai is one of India’s most populous cities.

2. Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow)

  • Lucknow is India’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Bara Imambara, a famous example of Mughal architecture in the city.
  • Lucknow also has a traditional Awadhi Cuisine.

3. Tamil Nadu – Chennai

  • Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu is renowned for its cultural richness.
  • One of South India’s major cultural and commercial centers.
  • Chennai is home to Kollywood, the Tamil movie industry.

4. Rajasthan – Jaipur

  • Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan is also known as Pink City because of the pink color of the buildings.
  • This is a very popular tourist destination, known for its vibrant markets, forts and palaces.
  • Jaipur also has a traditional Rajasthani culinary cuisine as well as handicrafts.

5. West Bengal – Kolkata

  • Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal is known as a center for culture and art.
  • In the city, you will find prominent institutions like the Indian Museum or the Victoria Memorial.
  • Kolkata’s street food is famous for the “puchka”, a popular snack.
